England will give as long as possible to prove his fitness for the first Test at The Gabba, with the signs increasingly positive that the wicketkeeper will extend his run of consecutive appearances to 58.
One Australian report claimed England had set Tuesday as a deadline and that Prior would be ruled out if he failed to come through a strenuous fitness test on the calf strain he suffered in the second warm-up match in Hobart.
But England were mystified by that suggestion. The 31-year-old has returned to training in the nets at the Sydney Ground in the last two days after being ruled out of the last warm-up game, and is expected to play a full part in practice on Monday after the flight north to Queensland.
Australia's fitness concern, Shane Watson, has come through the toughest test yet on the hamstring problem he sustained in India last month, but admits he may not be able to bowl.
